Critters by Britty

 Hippo Birdy to Me!

Well I celebrated my 47th birthday power washing the vinyl siding (am I a party animal or WHAT! Afterwards I noticed how the flowers had been sprayed with water and how pretty they looked. I was inspired at that point, to get out in my flower beds and wake them up from their long winter nap. So I dragged out their thick blanket of leaves and marveled at each sprout that I saw hunkered down under the leaves. The glads are poking their heads above ground, as are the bearded irises. My Asiatic lilies have poked through and as I pulled the leaves off my anemones I noticed buds that had previously been hidden by the leaves. I wore a t-shirt and it was glorious to feel the warm sun on my bare skin again after a winter of wearing long sleeved turtle necked sweaters. As I made my way along the flower bed I disturbed several baby lizards, all dressed in brown to blend in with the leaves, I scooted them along to the part of the bed that I had already worked on so's not to keep disturbing them as I made my way down the bed. A sulpher butterfly flew on by at one point, no doubt woken by the temperatures in the 60s and a large lazy bumble bee flew passed me on its way to the forsythia. As I worked closer to the bird feeders the birds began to be happy with my presence and land even despite me being in the vicinity. A hairy woodpecker made hesitant visits to the suet feeder but once it realized I was not going to harm it, it stayed and filled its belly with suet. March is the hardest month of the year for birds, so I was delighted to see mine making the most of the feeders. It was in all a glorious day. Here are some shots of my spring flowers after the power wash over-spray had landed on them. Enjoy.

 Memories

Someone asked me about a photo from my old Navy days and as a result I pulled out my folder containing all my stuff from the Navy. Just for fun I began reading my performance evaluations from those days, boy was I ever impressive! I remember reading them at the time of course, but seeing as it is 15 years since I have had a formal performance evaluation, (other than my boss saying "good job" or "well done" or hearing him singing my praises to others occasionally) it was interesting to read what my bosses thought of me back then. Apparently I walked on water, or the equivalent of it, and I was "delightful" "cheerful" "adaptable" "intelligent" "positive""charming" "slender" "smart" "well-groomed" and what ran through every evaluation was "a hard worker" which is nice to know has never changed. I also had the "no problem I will find an answer" attitude as opposed to "it can't be done" and was totally trustworthy and loyal. I know that the loyal part has never changed, I am as loyal to my boss now as I was to my Captain in Hong Kong and my Chief of Staff in Scotland. It is always fun to go back and see how people viewed you at a particular time in your life. When I went back to my time with 707 Squadron they mentioned how well I had coped with my divorce and had not let it affect my job performance at all. I shall have to dig out the photos and scan some so I can post shots of what I looked like in those days. Of course now I am old, and wrinkled. But it is nice to reflect on how elegant I was. *sigh*

How remiss of me (Random Thoughts)

I have been neglecting my blog (to which everyone is probably saying, "we wondered when you would shut up") so I must remedy the situation immediately.

So Anne Coulter called John Edwards a "faggot" and the world just about comes to an end, Bill Mahr (or whatever his name is) basically opines that the world would be better off if the terrorists had blown up Vice President Chaney and basically everyone goes "oh okay." Am I missing something here? Half the democrats in politics today at some point have called the President "an idiot" when he clearly is not, and yet they get a pass, many anti-war loonies have called the president "baby killer" and "murderer" when clearly he is not and yet they get a pass. Anne Coulter says John Edwards is a faggot, when he clearly is not and everyone and their trained monkeys are demanding that everyone in the Republican party including the girl that puts the stamps on the envelopes in the basement office of the Republican headquarters "apologize" for the comment or at best "disavow" or "condemn" Coulter's comments. I can understand the outrage if perhaps John Edwards had recently come out of the closet and declared himself gay but calling someone a "faggot" when they are clearly not a member of the class that was once derided with the name then what is the problem? Where I come from a faggot is a type of meat ball, and as far as I am aware the term is still used for such, therefore purely for the sake of argument how do we know that Anne wasn't saying that John Edwards is a meatball? Fags are cigarettes, perhaps she was calling him one of them? Meanwhile Bill Mahr says that the Vice Pres should be dead and everyone is cool with that, methinks a little perspective is in order here. I do take issue with Anne though, instead of calling him that she should have said that he is an ambulance-chasing, slime ball of a lawyer who has made millions on junk science and single handedly caused more unnecessary cesarean sections and more OB/GYN's to stop delivering babies and causing women to have to travel great distances to find a doctor willing to deliver a baby than any other human being on the planet, she would have been spot on then.

I love spring, there is a sense of hope in the air, my daffodils are blooming right now and I smile whenever I see them. That is the great thing about photography, you can capture a moment in time and then some time in the future you can go back to that moment and relive how you felt when the shot was taken. When I look at a shot of my sunflowers from last year I can almost feel the sun beating down on my bare shoulders. I love spring.

If you believe the democrats Iraq is an absolute disaster and victory is impossible. However, a little seen bit of news today would bely that fact. There was a big crack down on the worst area of Baghdad to try and suppress the insurgency, as it turned out the troops (both US and Iraqi) went in and the insurgents sort of ran away. The troops met little or no resistance. Don't hold your breath waiting for that story to air on CNN. (Which reminds me just in case Jack is reading today, keep yer 'ead down and stay safe.)

The Hilderbeast was campaigning in Alabama this weekend and inexplicably developed a southern drawl. Can't wait til she's campaigning in California among the surfers dude.

Saw the first episode of the new version of "Robin Hood" from the BBC, it was excellent. I shall have to try and keep up with the next episodes, providing I can pry the remote out of my sleeping husband's fingers that is.

The Walter Reed problem, why is anyone surprised, this is a government run organization, why is everyone yelling and gnashing of their teeth to discover that it is poorly run? Why are they saying that it takes forever for vets to be assessed for disability when the current waiting list for a Social Security hearing on disability is running at about 18 months? I do not understand that the very people who create the myriad of regulations and 300 page documents to explain how one should attach a paper clip to two pieces of paper are now bloviating about this? Am I the only one who has a problem with their double standards?

I am going to throw a brick through my husband's nice new HDTV if I have to watch one more a) cialis ad b) story about Anna Nicole Smith c) story about Britney Spears d) botox ad where women with frozen, expressionless faces tell me that "its my time" what its your time to walk around looking like a department store mannequin?

 The invading Army

The army was out there in force today, the noise was incredible, and there were hundreds of them, they kept all the other birds off the feeders for the most part. Hopefully they will be gone in the next couple of days. At least they were nice enough to pose for some photos.

 Sometimes words just fail me

This was an exchange between the Vice President and a journalist, the journalist has just said to the VP that President Bush's strategy in Iraq has failed.

CHENEY: A failed strategy. Let's see. We didn't fail when we got rid of Saddam. We didn't fail when we held elections. We didn't fail when we got a constitution written. They’re all success stories.

KARL: Didn't we fail when 3,000 American soldiers are all killed --

CHENEY: You wish there was never a casualty, Jonathan. Always a regret when you have casualties. But we are at war.

Have you ever in all your born days heard such a utterly, mind numbingly stupid statement? "didn't we fail when 3,000 American soldiers are all killed?" I mean one could more than likely get through their entire life without hearing something so crashingly ignorant but unfortunately journalists of the main stream media are not gifted with a fully functioning brain and while most people so inflicted get to spout their inane ramblings to the ducks at the local pond and various inanimate objects journalists being journalists get to spout their inane ramblings on tv to an obviously gullible public. "didn't we fail when 3,000 American soldiers are all killed?" To begin with "are all killed" what do you mean "all" killed, I mean were some of them not killed perhaps? Actually that is closer to the truth, if you look at the statistics (and so few people do) a lot of the deaths in Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with the enemy, that handy dandy 3,000 figure that the germalists keep using includes lots of deaths as a result of heart attack, disease, illness, car wrecks, training exercises etc., etc., (and you know I have pointed out in the past that more troops have died on US soil in the course of 4 years than have died in Iraq but try getting a member of the mainstream media to admit that inconvenient truth.) The most embarrassing part about the germalist's question is that his premise, and you must remember this point, his premise is that somehow, SOMEHOW one is supposed to go to war and NO ONE GETS KILLED! OH MY GOD! What a concept, you go to war and no one gets killed, when was the last time that that happened, it doesn't even happen in Audie Murphy movies and yet while it is okay for people to die in war in Hollywood, it is not okay for people to die in a REAL war. I suppose using the germalist's premise World War II was a strategic failure of epic proportions seeing as hundreds of thousands of soldiers died in that one, in fact the taking of Iwo Jima could be considered catastrophic strategic failure seeing as they lost what was it, 6,000 troops in a week? We should all be grateful that the mainstream media as they are today were not around in the 1940s, every last one of us would be speaking German or Japanese right now. We can also be grateful that the weak willed public were not around back then, cause if the war had gone on for more than a year they would have got tired and said "enough already lets get the troops home." Of course the good part about hearing a supposedly college educated (betcha his degree is in political science or journalism) person being so embarrassingly ignorant is that it makes the rest of us feel smart. I am so tired of listening to this tripe. I am going back to my birdies.
